I just picked up Anna Karenina at a thrift store, maybe I'll have to make that my next fiction read.

I would say the NDBT is worth your time. I read all the introductory articles in it, and it was both fascinating and helpful.

I agree its easy to get caught up in one pursuit at the exclusion of others. We're getting ready to enjoy some nature on a family trip going down for Katie's graduation, and getting to see my parents, and Dave's family.

Blessings on you and yours.

Bob

By the way, as long as we're on the topic of novels, I just finished my second essay into Tolstoy, Anna Karenina. Overall I was impressed, I think I enjoyed it more than War and Peace. I just mention it because I know you're a Tolstoy fan.

Bob,

You're probably right about 2:8. I suppose there needs to be a balance (as much as I hate to use the term) -- and in my life, as I was writing, I felt the pendulum was swung way over to the novel/movie side of things. Perhaps a little "cabin fever," after a long, cold winter, and the desire to get up into the mountains again. But maybe I should rephrase that point to indicate a resolve to engage in both sorts of activity, and not entirely to scorn either one.

I've just used the NDBT once or twice, and the couple articles I read had some useful information. Maybe I should buckle down and buy it, except for the vexing facts that I have neither discretionary funds in my bank account for the purchase of more books, nor discretionary space in my house for the placement of more books.

Very encouraging and challenging, Nathan. Well said, and I pray God will give grace that you might fulfill these desires.

It makes me long to be more purposeful in what I do, and what I plan to do, in my life.

Two questions, though, if I may.

1) On part 2 number 8, I wonder if this is the best approach or not. God created man and told him to fill the earth and use it. We are created to love beauty, and make beautiful things (plays, books, paintings, movies, etc.). When men fulfill that divinely given urge to create, we shouldn't think of their creations as sub-par and "earthly" or "fleshly", necessarily. That , in my mind, approaches gnostic dualism. Yes creation displays God's wonder, but 6 mile long suspension bridges, and spacecraft which fly from the earth to Jupiter, created by his own creations, do as well, even if only in a secondary sense.

2) On a separate note, have you seen The New Dictionary of Biblical Theology? I've read a good portion of it for a TBI class and I've been largely impressed, although they might not agree with a completely Christ-centered approach to hermeneutics. Just wondering if you've read or looked at it. If not, you should.

Blessings in Christ, brother.

PS I'm not giving up on Kingdom Surge just yet....

"Edwards-esque" -- thanks! That's one of the best compliments I've ever had. I would consider my life very successful if, at the end of it, I had accomplished one tenth of what Edwards did towards delighting in and testifying to the diverse excellency of Christ.
